Meet Matt Johnson
GoKey Locksmiths was founded in 2015 by Matt Johnson, a United States Marine Corps veteran with a passion for honest work and exceptional customer service. What started as a one-man operation has grown into a trusted locksmith service that serves Salt Lake City, Utah Valley, and surrounding areas. Matt’s military background instilled in him the values of discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence—principles that continue to guide every aspect of our business today.
Matt’s journey to founding GoKey Locksmiths was rooted in his service to our country. After his time with the United States Marine Corps, Matt wanted to build something meaningful—a business that would serve his community with the same dedication and precision he brought to his military career. He recognized a gap in the market for a locksmith service that was transparent, reliable, and truly customer-focused.
Starting from his truck with just the tools of his trade, Matt built GoKey Locksmiths through hard work, word-of-mouth recommendations, and an unwavering commitment to solving problems quickly and affordably. His military training taught him to stay calm under pressure—a skill that proves invaluable when customers are locked out of their homes or vehicles at inconvenient times.

What Customers Say About Matt
"Got locked out of my apartment in the middle of the night on Friday and called over 10 different "24-hour" locksmiths. GoKey Locksmiths was the only one who answered. He arrived promptly, was professional, and had me back inside quickly with no stress. Super grateful to have found someone reliable at that hour. Highly recommend if you need a locksmith you can actually count on."
"Matt was amazing to work with. Kind, fast, and truly went above and beyond. He made the keys we needed for our car and saved us hundreds compared to the dealership's quote. He got us two key fobs at a great price and programmed them on the spot. Highly recommend him if you're looking for a reliable locksmith."
"Locked out of my house just before midnight on a weekend. Matt was out in 20 min. Able to get the door unlocked without drilling it. Great service and very fair pricing! Highly recommend."
"Matt was awesome. Called a couple guys before him and they were hours to a day out. Matt picked up the phone. I told him I locked my keys in the truck. He said OK, I'm on my way. Text him the address he kept me updated on his ETA. It was a semi-truck and I know they are difficult trucks to unlock. But he made it happen!"
"Matt came on time to fix our front smart door lock (5 years old) that just stopped working all of a sudden. He did a factory reset on the installed lock but that didn't work. He had a new smart lock and installed it for us and gave a sweet discount! He did all of this in less than 30 minutes. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing locksmith services done!"
"On Saturday night Matt was to my place within 26 minutes. He was polite and very respectful of the situation. He had my car unlocked within a couple of minutes. Couldn't have asked for a better experience."
"I lost my keys while on a hike. I called Matt and he was AMAZING and so HELPFUL. The universe was giving us tons of bad luck, but he was so kind and patient and helped me until everything was okay. 100 star rating for Matt, he saved me!"
"Called Matt to see if he could help me with a lost key. Within a few minutes he was on his way. Super fast and easy. As frustrating as it is to have to replace a lost key, Matt made it hassle free. I'm hoping I don't need this service in the future but if I do, I know who to call."
"I accidentally locked my keys in my car, and they arrived almost immediately. They had my car unlocked in under five minutes! Fast, efficient, and very professional. Highly recommend!"
"Matt is great! We went back and forth on the phone trying to coordinate after my husband lost his truck keys. He was on his way when my husband found the keys so we did not end up needing his service but he has been super awesome through the whole process! We will definitely give him a call for any future locksmith services!"
"Same day service. Quick and easy. Good dude. Even gives recommendations on other services around town that he trusts. Great first call once you buy your new place!"
